Dear Resident
Sometimes we are asked what type of products to look for when looking at vehicle security products. Although there are many on the market, it is important to ensure any product is of a very good standard. For instance, a good steering lock is a popular and easy product to use. Via the Sold Secure - Security Product Testing & Approval site I have attached some examples of products that can be used. There is a Sold Secure Gold Award steering lock, a Pedal Lock device and a van door lock that can be mounted to the external side of the door but works independently from the regular locking system.
So additional physical security can help to prevent your vehicle being driven away even if a thief gains entry. Some of their products, tested to Sold Secure Diamond, can even resist a small hand-held angle grinder.
I have tried to summarise some of the information and included images below for you to see as a reference.
Steering Wheel Locks - Sold Secure Rated & Tested Steering Wheel Locks Ultra-High Security for Your Vehicle - Armaplate Resolute
Milenco BC Lock (Pedal Lock - Sold Secure Rated) - Sold Secure
The L4V Statement Lock from Locks 4 Vans mounts externally to the doors of the vehicle and braces them together for a high security result. We recommend this product is fitted higher on the door to help protect against the door being peeled down. As a deadlock working independently from the manufacturers’ locking system, it offers flexibility to the operator of the vehicle allowing them to use this extra security when required.
It's also worth speaking to your vehicle dealership about installing an aftermarket immobiliser approved by the manufacturer.
Immobilisers prevent a vehicle from starting unless the correct fob, key or activation process is used. They can be personalised so that you're the only one who knows how to unset it via a number of dashboard controls.
